What happened
On 24 October 2026 we typed "Samura Consulting Group Dubai" into ChatGPT and Claude, logged out. ChatGPT said it could not verify a company under that spelling and offered two other firms with similar names. Claude said it could not find a company called Samura Consulting Group in Dubai and listed four unrelated consultancies.
Our website had been live in its new form for six days. It has sixteen articles, a published price list, a client case study, structured data on every page and an llms.txt file. None of it mattered yet. We are publishing this because it is the most common complaint we hear from Dubai business owners, and because our own case is a clean example of why it happens.
The three causes
1. The index has not caught up. ChatGPT searches through Bing's index. Claude and Perplexity use their own crawlers plus web search. Gemini uses Google's. A new or rebuilt site has to be crawled, then indexed, then judged worth returning, and each stage takes days. We submitted the site to Bing and Google on 21 October. Google read our sitemap on the 23rd. Bing had not yet ranked a single page for our own name on the 24th. That is normal. It is also invisible to the owner, who just sees the engine say no.
2. Nothing else confirms you exist. Engines are cautious about naming a business on the strength of its own website alone. They look for the same name and description on sources they already trust: LinkedIn, Google Business Profile, Crunchbase, industry directories, news. A search for our name on 24 October returned none of those, because our LinkedIn page was a week old and our directory profiles were not yet live. To the engines, a company with one source is a rumour.
3. Someone with a similar name has more evidence. ChatGPT offered "Samra Consulting DMCC" and "Strategic Consulting Group". Both have been on the web longer. When an engine cannot match your exact name, it falls back to the nearest entity with enough evidence, and the owner reads that as being confused with a competitor. It is a gap in your evidence, not a judgement about theirs.
How long it takes
From our own logs and client work: first retrieval by name in Perplexity and ChatGPT search typically within two to four weeks of index submission plus two or three authoritative profiles going live. Gemini follows the Google Business Profile, so it moves when the profile is verified and has reviews. Being named for category questions, "best X in Dubai", takes longer, because that depends on third-party pages, not your own.
If an agency tells you it can fix name recognition in five days, ask them to show you the prompt and the account it was run on.
The checklist we are running on ourselves
- Sitemap submitted to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, and each important URL requested individually. Done 21 October.
- One sentence that describes the company, used identically everywhere: name, what it does, for whom, where, since when, who runs it.
- LinkedIn company page with that sentence, posting weekly. Live.
- Crunchbase profile with the same sentence and the leadership listed. Live.
- Google Business Profile at the working address, primary category set, description identical. In verification.
- Directory profiles on the sites the engines cite for the category: for an agency, DesignRush, GoodFirms, Clutch, Semrush Agency Partners. In progress this week.
- The Managing Partner's personal LinkedIn profile naming the company with the same title the website uses.
- The same five prompts, re-run weekly, logged with the date. The log is what tells us which of the above moved the needle.
We will publish the week the engines first return us by name, with the screenshot. Until then, if ChatGPT cannot find your company either, you are in good company, and the list above is where to start.

Why does ChatGPT say it cannot find my company?
Usually because its web index has not caught up with your site, because no trusted third-party source confirms the business, or because a similarly named company has more evidence online. Company size is rarely the reason.
How long until an AI engine recognises a new business by name?
Typically two to four weeks after submitting the site to Bing and Google and getting two or three authoritative profiles live, such as LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and an industry directory.
Why does ChatGPT confuse my company with another one?
When it cannot match your exact name, it falls back to the nearest entity with enough evidence. The fix is more consistent evidence for your own name, not a complaint about the other company.
What is the first thing to fix for name recognition?
One identical description of the business on the website, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and at least one directory, followed by index submission of the site.
