What ranking means in AI search
In Google, ranking meant a position in a list. In AI search, there is no list. The engine writes one answer and names a few businesses. You are either in the answer or you are not, and the set changes with the wording, the user's location and the day. So the goal is not a position. It is to be in the set of businesses the engine considers credible for your kind of question, in as many engines as your customers use.
How each engine chooses
ChatGPT. With search on, it queries Bing, reads the top results and summarises. Being indexed by Bing, and being on the pages Bing ranks for your question, is the route in. Submit your site to Bing Webmaster Tools; most UAE businesses never do.
Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Built on Google's index and, for local questions, Google Business Profile and Maps data. A verified profile with the right category and recent reviews matters more here than anywhere else.
Perplexity. Reads recent web pages directly and cites them openly. It responds fastest to new, clearly written pages, which is why it is often the first engine to name a new business.
Claude. Uses its own web search and is the most careful about self-published rankings; it says when a source is an agency ranking itself. Clear facts on your own site and third-party confirmation are what it wants.
Copilot. Bing again, so the ChatGPT work covers it.
The work that moves all five
- Entity. One name, address, description and leadership everywhere, with organization structured data. This is the base every engine checks.
- Answer-first pages. A page per buyer question, answer in the first paragraph with facts, FAQ with schema.
- Indexing. Sitemap submitted to both Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools; new pages submitted as they go live.
- Sources. Listings and reviews on the sites each engine cites for your category; one comparison or news mention if you can earn it.
- Tracking. Five questions, four engines, weekly, logged out. The engine that lags tells you which source is missing.
How long it takes in the UAE
Perplexity and ChatGPT search typically first within three to six weeks of the work going live. Gemini follows the Google profile. Broad category questions take two to three months. Nobody honest promises faster.
What to track
Not rankings. Count how many of your tracked questions name you, in which engines, which sources were cited, and how many enquiries mention finding you through an AI assistant. Samura publishes its own log on the tested agency ranking page.

Is there a ranking in ChatGPT like there is in Google?
No. ChatGPT writes one answer and names a few businesses. The goal is to be in the set it considers credible for your kind of question, not to hold a position.
Which AI engine should a UAE business focus on first?
Perplexity and ChatGPT search usually respond first to new pages, while Gemini depends on the Google Business Profile. Do the identity and page work once and it serves all of them.
Do I need to submit my website to Bing?
Yes. ChatGPT and Copilot search through Bing, and most UAE businesses have never submitted their sitemap to Bing Webmaster Tools.
How do I know which engine is lagging?
Run the same five questions in each engine weekly and compare. The engine that does not name you is reading a source you are not on yet; its citations show which.
