What ChatGPT actually does when someone asks
When a customer in Dubai types "best physiotherapist in JLT" or "which company builds e-commerce sites in the UAE", ChatGPT with search turned on runs a web search (through Bing), reads the top pages, and writes an answer naming three to five businesses. It is not consulting a secret list. It is summarising whatever it found, and it prefers pages that describe a business clearly and agree with each other.
So getting recommended by ChatGPT is not a trick. It is making sure the pages ChatGPT reads say clear, consistent, checkable things about you. Here is the order that works.
Step 1: make your business easy to identify
ChatGPT builds its picture of your business from many sources. If your website says "Samura Consulting Group", Google says "Samura Consulting" and a directory says "SCG", it sees three weak businesses instead of one strong one.
- One exact name, one address, one phone number, one description, everywhere: website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn company page, Crunchbase, every directory.
- Name the people who run the business, with the same titles on the website and LinkedIn.
- Add organization structured data to your homepage with links to those profiles.
Time: an afternoon. Effect: everything below works better.
Step 2: publish pages that answer the questions
ChatGPT quotes pages that answer a question directly. Write down the ten questions your best customers ask, and give each one a page with the question as the title and the answer in the first paragraph, with a number, a place or a name in it. "A dental implant at our Jumeirah clinic costs AED 6,500 including the crown" can be quoted. "We offer world-class dental care" cannot.
Add a short FAQ at the end of each page, marked up with FAQ schema. Keep paragraphs short. Avoid slogans.
Step 3: add structured data and llms.txt
Structured data (JSON-LD) tells engines what each page is: an organization, a service, an article, a FAQ, a person. An llms.txt file at the root of your site tells AI crawlers what your business is and which pages matter. Neither is a ranking trick; both remove guesswork, and ChatGPT names businesses it does not have to guess about.
Step 4: get onto the sources ChatGPT cites
Ask ChatGPT your customers' questions and click the small source links under the answer. Those are the pages it trusts for your category: directories, review sites, comparison articles, trade bodies, local media. Get listed on them with the same details as your website. Ask happy customers for Google reviews that mention the service and the area. If a comparison article exists for your category, ask to be included with accurate facts.
This step is where most of the movement comes from, and it is the step most Dubai businesses skip.
Step 5: test weekly and fix what is missing
Run the same five questions every week in ChatGPT, logged out. Note whether you are named, who is named instead, and which sources appear. The sources tell you the next fix. Expect the first mention for a specific question in three to six weeks, broader questions in two to three months.
What does not work
Stuffing your name into pages, buying reviews, publishing hundreds of thin articles, or asking ChatGPT about yourself while logged in and screenshotting the result. All four produce a screenshot and none produces a customer.
If you want it done for you
Samura runs these five steps as a program for Dubai businesses, with published prices from AED 2,999 and a weekly log you can check yourself. Start with the AI visibility audit to see where you stand.

How does ChatGPT decide which businesses to recommend in the UAE?
It searches the web, reads the top pages for the question, and names the businesses those pages describe clearly and consistently. It prefers businesses whose details agree across their website, Google profile, directories and reviews.
How long does it take to get recommended by ChatGPT?
First mentions for specific local questions typically appear in three to six weeks after the fixes above. Broad 'best in Dubai' questions take two to three months, because they depend on other websites naming you.
Does ChatGPT read Google Business Profile?
Not directly, but it cites directories and review sites that copy your Google profile, so an accurate, verified profile with reviews reaches ChatGPT second-hand. Gemini and Google AI Overviews use it directly.
Can I pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?
No. There is no paid placement inside ChatGPT answers. Some websites that ChatGPT cites sell listings, which is a different thing and only works if what you publish there is true.
