How a hotel shortlist is built now
Large hotel groups have procurement systems and approved vendor lists. But the first step, finding candidates for a category, is increasingly done by a person typing a question into an AI assistant, because it is faster than browsing directories and it filters on the hotel's constraints. Independent hotels and new openings rely on it even more, because they have no vendor list yet.
- "Linen and towel supplier in Dubai for a 400-room hotel, with laundry partnership"
- "Amenities supplier UAE with sustainable packaging, 5-star"
- "Specialty coffee supplier for hotel outlets in Dubai with machines and barista training"
- "Local farm that delivers to hotels in Dubai six days a week, GlobalG.A.P."
- "Hotel furniture and FF&E supplier UAE with project references"
- "Pest control company approved by Dubai Municipality for hotels"
What gets a supplier onto the list
- Hotel references, stated. Named properties supplied, with permission, and the scale. "Supplying 14 hotels in Dubai including two 500-room properties" is quotable. "Trusted by leading hotels" is not.
- Volumes and capacity. What you can deliver per week, lead times for a new opening, buffer stock held.
- Service terms hotels care about: delivery windows, emergency delivery, consignment or stock-holding, account management, invoicing through hotel procurement platforms.
- Compliance: municipality approvals, HACCP or ISO 22000 for food, product certifications, insurance, and vendor registration with the major hotel groups where you have it.
- A hospitality page and contact: a page written for hotel buyers, with a named key account manager and a direct line.
What keeps a supplier off it
A homepage that says "serving all industries" with no hotel page. No volumes or references. Different company names on the website, the exhibitor list and the municipality register. A catalogue PDF and nothing else. These are the four most common reasons a capable supplier is never named, and all four are fixable in a week.
Sources the engines cite
Supplier websites, Gulf Host and Gulfood exhibitor profiles, hotel group vendor and sustainability pages that name suppliers, hospitality trade press, brand distributor pages, and reviews. Hotel group sustainability reports often name local suppliers, and the engines quote them; it is worth asking a client hotel whether you can be named.
